Preparing your CV
Your C.V. is usually the first point of contact you make with your prospective employer; therefore it is vital that you make a good impression.
Decisions can be made in an instant, just by glancing at your C.V. so here are some tips to impress:
Follow these rules when writing your C.V.
- Keep it short and to the point, but make sure the content is as strong as it can be.
- Don't write more than two pages.
- Format your C.V. in a neat and orderly fashion.
- Education and Employment must be listed with most recent first.
- Try to make your strong points subtly stand out from the rest of the page.
- Include necessary contact details so that the employer can easily get in touch with you.
- Include briefly what you achieved in other roles and how you made that happen.
- Use constructive wording but don't lie!
- Don't say that you like to go out drinking (even though it may be true).
- Include referees you know are prepared to say good things about you. If you can't contact them immediately, write 'References available on request'
