Principal Scientist – Deeside/ Northwest UK – Diagnostics

 

About the Company:

We are looking for a senior development scientist with experience in antibiotic susceptibility research to join an expanding diagnostics company at their site in the Northwest. This well-established company has a comprehensive benefits package and offers excellent career progression potential.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Utilize specialized technical knowledge and skills to implement company research strategies.
  • Lead the development of products and services, ensuring alignment with company objectives.
  • Mentor and develop a team of technicians and scientists.
  • Identify and establish collaborative opportunities with academic and industry experts.
  • Advise on product improvement and take overall responsibility for technical work packages.
  • Identify and evaluate new research areas and emerging technologies to expand the company's portfolio.
  • Lead and review complex technical projects to meet strategic and commercial objectives.
  • Champion microbiology expertise and build a professional profile as a key opinion leader.
  • Address technical issues and act as a liaison between departments.
  • Contribute to broader company business and regulatory strategies.
  • Foster a work environment that promotes scientific challenge and innovation.
  • Coordinate patent writing and conference presentations/publications.
  • Represent the company to potential collaborators and maintain a network of key opinion leaders.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to ensure project success and compliance.
  • Drive innovation and technical excellence through team mentoring and external collaborations.
  • Support regulatory filings and quality assurance functions.

 

Requirements:

  • PhD in Microbiology or closely related Biological Science with significant post-degree experience.
  • Experience in antibiotic susceptibility research.
  • Strong understanding of technology and market dynamics.
  • Proven experience in team management and leadership.
  • Familiarity with IVD regulatory requirements and landscape.
  • Excellent collaborative and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of clinical microbiology and relevant detection processes preferred.
